The written word was my first love. As a child I devoured books voraciously, jamming books behind the taps when I was brushing my teeth so that I could continue to read, uninterrupted. Yes, I went through that hideous teenage phase of writing endless self indulgent poetry whilst locked away in my bedroom, listening to Nirvana. Then I moved on to writing lyrics, for a rock band before finally moving onto writing academically, doing a BA in English Lit at Sheffield University.
I've always been into 'multimedia' and in Sheffield experimented with film and theatre. I went on to complete a Masters degree in Curatorship and Modern Art at Sydney University (long before the term 'curating' become common parlance in the digital marketing world). I did that degree because I was interested in telling stories, creating journeys and narratives with words and pictures.
This theme has continued throughout my career in the media in which I've developed a specialism in content, marketing, PR and most recently, SEO.
Performing at senior management level in several organisations with a startup mentality and big growth plans, however, it can't just be 'content for content's sake'. What interests me now is how to create compelling, powerful and unique content that has a tangible result on the business bottom line. And that is why I'm so passionate about SEO PR. not only is it rooted in search behaviour, but the power of strategic, targeted content can finally give marketers the accountability they are looking for.
When I'm not out networking, meeting people and unearthing new ideas and opportunities, I enjoy socialising, cooking, drinking real ale, travelling, yoga, canoeing, being in nature and living in my beloved Brighton. Yes I do meditate. And yes it does really work.
